Saturday was World Alzheimer's Day, and to mark the occasion our Prevention of Delirium Team are hosting a delirium roadshow this week.
They're already off to a flying start, raising £400 at their tombola and static bike fundraising event last Friday. Our teams at HRI came to support, each taking a turn in the saddle to raising money through pedal power.
Prevention of Delirium Co-ordinator, Rachel Bennett, said: "We all suffered the following day but worth it for the conversations and money raised for patient resources. It was nice to pause and listen to people’s stories. One lady, who won knitting needles on the tombola, said she had been meaning to start knitting but didn’t know what to knit. We gave her the pattern for twiddle muffs, which we use for patients with dementia or delirium as they help to calm restless hands, and that’s given her motivation to start and donate them back to us. I’m hugely proud of us all for coming together and raising so much money and we already have people signed up to cycle next year!"
The Prevention of Delirium Team have now set their sights to educating and spreading awareness throughout CHFT. There will be a stall all this week in the main entrance at HRI and they'll also be walking (not cycling) the wards to bring colleagues micro teachings, quizzes and maybe even a sweet treat.
There is also the opportunity to find out more about delirium at the Lunch and Learn events which are taking place between 12pm - 12:30pm on Wednesday and Friday with Dementia Lead Practitioner, Laura Doyle. Scan the QR code below or follow the link to join one of the Lunch and Learn sessions.
