This summer has seen amazing attendance at the Shroggs Park, Halifax and Greenhead Park, Huddersfield – 5K Your way events, which take place on the last Saturday of every month. These events have been going since last September - and there are plans to celebrate properly later next month.
If you or anyone you know, including your patients, have been affected by cancer, then please come along and meet us at any of the parks this coming Saturday 31st August.
The benefits of keeping active are known to help people cope with cancer treatment. Movement through and beyond a cancer diagnosis can help to reduce treatment related fatigue, help preserve cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness, may reduce the side effects of chemotherapy, and can help to prevent recurrence. Importantly, physical activity can help to improve psychological and emotional well-being and is a fun and great way to meet people.
This is a community-based initiative from the Move Charity to encourage those living with and beyond cancer, families, friends, and those working in cancer services to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at a designated 5k Your Way parkrun event, taking place on the last Saturday of each month.
Every group is led by volunteer 5K Your Way Ambassadors, who act as the focal point for the group. Participants will receive a very warm and friendly welcome, and everyone is encouraged to do as little or as much as they want or simply join together for a drink and a chat.
You may recognise some of the Ambassadors and Supporters from the hospitals at both events:
- Halifax – Dr Uschi Hofmann, Nicky Hill, Helen Greenwood.
- Huddersfield – Anne-Marie Keen, Carolyn Rowlands, Dinah Coggon, Maureen Overton, Lucy Beckingham.
Please promote this event to your patients or anyone you know affected by cancer who would like to come along.
