Ahead of retiring later this week, Senior Biomedical Scientist, Helen Senior, has picked up our latest CHuFT Star Award.

Helen had come into work on her day off to help support the department – a typically Helen thing to do – and one of the many reasons she was nominated by colleague and fellow Biomedical Scientist, Waqas Abbas.

Brendan said: “We thought this was a lovely nomination, and perfect timing as you are retiring next Friday.

“Helen, as the nomination quotes, you are always putting patients’ needs first – which is very clear today. You have come in today especially, so it’s important you know how much you are loved, and you should be really proud. Congratulations!”

Here’s just a snippet of Waqas’ nomination:

“I would say Helen is a true embodiment of Compassionate Care - a selfless Manager who always puts the patients’ needs first, treats her co-workers with respect and genuinely cares for their wellbeing.

"She is so passionate about her role that she consistently stays behind after work, dealing with clinical colleague enquiries, managing difficult patient data for people who require specialist tests and blood products we may have encountered throughout the day, as well as reading and implementing new ways of improving patient safety for the Laboratory.

"She has an outstanding memory of workplace regulations, coupled with a tireless work ethic whereby any colleague can approach her with a complex query whether it be about blood transfusions, health and safety issues, union matters or a personal issue. No matter how busy she may be she is able to calmly provide a definitive answer.

I have never met a person who is a true follower of the Trust's Compassionate Care ethos both for the patients she serves, the healthcare service users as well as the colleagues she manages.

She is extremely passionate about her job role that she consistently stays behind after work, dealing with clinical staff member enquiries, managing difficult patient data who require specialist tests and blood products we may have encountered throughout the day as well as reading and implementing new ways of improving patient safety for the laboratory.”
