A new Closed Loop Medication Administration (CLMA) project is currently being piloted on the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) at HRI.

This means that SAU colleagues are now scanning medication packs, as well as patient wristbands. The aim is to further improve patient safety by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication, at the right dose, right route and right time. The feedback from SAU will shape rollout of CLMA to the rest of the Trust.

Ward Manager, Sarah Windle, said: "I have had some great feedback from not only the team on SAU but also from Alaya, the EPR Lead Pharmacist. Alaya told me that the Project Team were really impressed by how welcoming and engaged nurses were. I think that’s testament to the ward leadership, so a huge thanks to them.

"I understand first-hand how hard it is to change standard practice, so I am really pleased that the team have welcomed this new innovation on SAU and the feedback has been positive by all. I just want to say a big thank you to SAU sisters Holly Dawson and Millie Haigh who helped roll out this project, showing great leadership skills. I also want to thank Alaya, the EPR Medications Team and the Change Facilitators who assisted us and made the pilot go so smoothly."
