Please take the time to update yourself with the management of anaphylaxis by reading the following key points:

  • IM Adrenaline is the treatment for Anaphylaxis and should be given immediately.
  • Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening emergency, suspecting anaphylaxis should prompt an immediate review by appropriate personnel. This can be done by dialling 2222 and requesting the adult crash team.
  • Vials of Adrenaline 1:1000 can be obtained from the blue emergency drug box on all adult crash trolleys. This will either be a yellow pack with Adrenaline vials, needles and syringes or a box of Adrenaline vials with no needles or syringes. Both will contain dosing information.
  • CHFT uses the Resuscitation Council UK's Guidelines 2021 guideline for the management of Anaphylaxis. The algorithms can be found in the below PDF or are available on the resuscitation intranet pages and in all red adult crash trolley folders.
  • Additional training on how to recognise and manage anaphylaxis is available as an e-learning package on ESR.
  • There are also videos on the resuscitation intranet pages showing how to use Adrenaline Auto injectors such as EpiPen.
