Clinical Manager for Community, Sally Akesson, and Legacy Mentor, Kate Jones, recently completed a three month Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) programme run by NHS England.
The programme launched in 2021 and aims to provide participants with skills to facilitate restorative supervision to their colleagues and teams. Sally and Kate wanted to do the course to help improve colleague wellbeing and feel they now have the skills to listen to and understand the challenges faced by their colleagues in Community.
Sally said: "It's not always about problems people are facing. It's also an opportunity for colleagues to come to us with ideas they've had about improving the service, which may have been missed otherwise."
Kate said: "For me, as a nurse, I feel it's important to show support, especially as we're attracting more and more younger nurses. What we're exposed to in a clinical setting can be traumatic. It's a lot for anyone to have to deal with, but especially our young colleagues. We're here to support them."
Our other Community PNAs include District Nurse, Ansah Jamil, and Community Practice Educator, Rachel Jackson. If you would like to get in touch with a PNA to discuss any challenges you are facing, you can do so by filling out the booking form.
