Nervecentre will be unavailable across both hospital sites on Wednesday the 3rd of July between 11:00 and 15:00 so we can upgrade our servers.

Please note:

  • Ward staff can keep Zebra Devices in use for other systems such as blood track as these systems are still available.
  • The iPads will be unusable after the upgrade due to the age of the devices. These will be removed from areas by the Silver Service Team

What is the impact?

  • Nervecentre will not be available to input vital signs, send or receive Raised/ High NEWS/PAWS.
  • EPR will be used to notify colleagues once the upgrade is complete.

What colleagues need to do and when:

  • Identify in advance which patients will need regular observations during the downtime period.
  • 11:00am: Ward staff can keep Zebra Devices in use for other systems such as blood track, as these systems are still available.
  • For all patients input vital signs directly into EPR. DO NOT USE paper NEWS2 or PAWS charts. Be aware of the frequency of the next observation and any escalation required for that observation score.
  • Review all recorded vital signs in EPR.
  • See the attachments below as reference to NEWS 2 and PAWS parameters and escalation ( please do not print out to use to record vital signs on)
  • Awareness of patients requiring NEWS Scale 2 observations. SOP - Changing the NEWS Scale 1-2 and vice versa CHFTCCD041 - Changing the NEWS Scale in EPR (CHFT Nervecentre not available only) V3.pdf (cht.nhs.uk)
  • See our Business Continuity Plan on the intranet: Business_Continuity_Plan_for_Nervecentre_System_Loss_V2.pdf (cht.nhs.uk)
