Following an audit by the orthopaedic department to see if patients who had come in with an upper limb fracture were appropriately having their vascular and neurological status documented, learnings have been logged and the team are keen to signpost to key areas.
Core Training Registrar, Bawan Hama, pictured, said: “We found that there is certainly room for improvement, so we’ve created some posters for colleagues in A&E and our orthopaedic department.
"We identified the areas for development, and ask that anyone who reviews a patient for an upper limb fracture documents these key findings from the history and examination":
- Mechanism of injury
- Radial pulse
- Capillary refill time
- Sensory function
- Motor function
