Colleagues are remembering their former teammate and friend, Cheryl Hood, who sadly died last month.
Ward Clerk, Sam Hackin, said: “I worked with Cheryl several years ago on Ward 21. She was a fantastic nurse with an infectious laugh and I always loved working on shift with her.
“Nothing was too much trouble, and she would take you under her wing and support you 100%. She was a great friend to many and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. The NHS has lost a truly amazing nurse.”
Cheryl began her career as an auxiliary nurse working from Mill Hill hospital in the South Kirklees Trust, before updating her qualifications to start at Huddersfield University at the mature age of 37. Her first job was on Ward 7 at CRH, then she moved to Ward 21 at HRI before her final move onto Ward 5 there.
Her husband John said: “Cheryl loved working with the acute elderly, and after two years she became a ward sister, always striving for more knowledge becoming the lead on numerous tasks like infection control and helping others. She went back to university in later years to become a mentor helping to train the future nurses. She earned the name of "Uni Mum” from her fellow students when she was there as well as when she was a mentoring Nursing Sister.
“She always spoke highly of all those that she crossed paths with throughout her career as well as holding some dear to her heart that became lifelong friends”.
Our thoughts go to all who knew or worked with Cheryl.
