Colleagues from across eight NHS trusts, primary and community organisations, came together on Tuesday, 30 April to attend the Care of the Vascular Patient Learning Event, hosted by the West Yorkshire Vascular Service (WYVaS) and the Sheffield Vascular Institute.

More than 80 members of staff attended the learning event, with representation from nursing, AHP, medical, radiology, theatre, pre-assessment, and community services.

The event was opened by WYVaS Chief Nurse, Amanda Stanford, who described it as “a fantastic day with teams defined not by bricks and mortar but by common interest in patient pathways and the positive impact of collaboration.”

The day encouraged colleagues to learn new skills and explore different ways of working from peers across different trusts.

Head of Nursing for WYVaS, Clare Vickers, said: “The event enabled our vascular MDT colleagues to network with each other and share learning.”

Attendees described the day as providing ‘the sense of being part of a bigger team’ and that the content was ‘informative’, ‘collaborative’, ‘patient centred’, ‘fun’ and ‘interactive’.

Clare Vickers and Senior Vascular Nurse Specialist at the Sheffield Vascular Institute, Nikki Fenwick, would like to thank Amanda Stanford, the Society of Vascular Nurses, the Circulation Foundation and all the expert speakers from Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for inspiring colleagues with their engaging presentations.

The event will run a second time (with a similar agenda) on Friday, 21 June – you can register for this by emailing v.eastland-rooke@nhs.net. Please note, places are offered on a first come, first served basis.
