Our Radiology department have been celebrating lots of great news as they have recently maintained their accreditation status and have had two new scanners installed.

The team have successfully maintained their accreditation status against the Quality Standards for Imaging, meaning that they have been formally recognised (again) for the outstanding care they provide our patients.

Radiology Quality Manager, Claire Gruszka, said: "It has been a huge effort to achieve compliance with the Imaging Standards again and this highlights the commitment from the Radiology Team to ensure we provide the highest standard of quality care."

Two new scanners have also recently been installed. A new CT scanner has replaced one which was almost 10 years old, and a new plain film scanner has replaced a 15-year-old scanner. The new equipment can scan a lot faster and requires a lower dose of radiation each time. It has also improved the diagnostic quality of scans.

Plain Film Service Lead, Emma Hurst, and CT Service Lead, Lucy Thomson, have been helping with the project. Emma said: "The new equipment has created quite a buzz within the team, with staff very keen to use the new equipment. A thank you to all colleagues for being patient during the install."

Radiology Business Manager, Imran Majid, and Advanced Practitioner, Rob Davies, created a short video to show the before and after of the plain film scanner installation. Watch it below.
