The final preparations are underway to open our new Accident and Emergency department at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary this coming Wednesday, just after midnight (Tuesday night into the early hours of Wednesday morning).
All services currently based in the existing A&E on North Drive will transfer across to the new facility on South Drive when it opens for patient care.
There will be a short period where we dual-run two departments. Patients will be seen in the new A&E from 00:01 and any patients in the old A&E will continue to be treated there until the final patient has been treated and discharged or admitted to a ward.
A huge thank you to those colleagues who are supporting the move. On the night itself, there will be additional staffing on in medical and surgical same day emergency care units, paediatrics, radiology, discharge lounge and private ambulance, to help ease the pressures whilst the transition takes place.
Last week colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service were able to see the space before it opens.
