Ward 21 Staff Nurse, Natalie Proven, is taking on one of her biggest challenges since she started work at CHFT 18 years ago – running the Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for Diabetes UK.

Natalie initially signed up in memory of her mum, who had inspired her. But last December it became more important, as her 12-year-old daughter Amelia was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Natalie said: “Amelia was admitted to the children’s ward at CRH and all the staff and the Diabetes Team have been phenomenal, so it has all the more special meaning for me to complete it.

“Seeing the other side the past few months has made me so proud to work for the Trust, all staff involved in her care have been wonderful.

"My mum has been Type 1 diabetic since she was 6-years old, but she’s managed the challenges and difficulties of diabetes for over 50 years. At one time in history it was a death sentence. These days thanks to medical advances people can live and thrive thanks to the amazing work and funding put into research and treatment."

Natalie only joined the Northowram Pumas Running Club in early 2023 and said at that point she thought she was doing well running two or three miles at a time.

She’s running on Sunday 26th May. Read more on her JustGiving page: Natalie Provan is fundraising for Diabetes UK (justgiving.com)
