Our Maternity Matron, Jo Machon, was recently introduced to newly qualified Midwife, Lucy Raine. Jo provided antenatal and postnatal care to Lucy and her mum more than twenty years ago. She also helped to deliver Lucy's older brother back in 1996.
Jo has worked at CHFT for 28 years and can still remember caring for both Lucy and her brother, Sam. She said: "Being part of the pregnancy to parenthood journey is such a privilege. Helping to bring new life into the world is a job like no other."
Lucy has just started her #TeamCHFT Midwifery career and said: "I am very grateful for how supportive and welcoming everybody has been. It has been a really positive experience so far. Jo has always been very well thought of in my family, so it was lovely to meet her in person. My mum has never forgotten about the care Jo provided during both of her pregnancies and has always spoken so highly of her.
"I always wanted a career that involved caring and supporting other people, because it’s something that I have always been very passionate about. I cannot think of anything more fulfilling than being there for women and their families during the most important time of their life."
International Day of the Midwife is this Sunday, 5 May.
