Thank you to those colleagues who completed the recent Information Governance (IG) survey. We are pleased to say that the findings demonstrated that the majority of CHFT colleagues understood their own personal responsibility in keeping information secure.

However, 34% of colleagues did not feel we take appropriate action when data security incidents have taken place, and 23% felt that they could not raise concerns about unsecure or unlawful uses of data without personal recrimination.

The survey also highlighted that a fifth of respondents did not know who to ask for data security advice, or how to report a breach, with 16% expressing that the mandatory data security training on offer was inadequate.

We take the survey results very seriously, and we’ll use them to tailor our training strategy going forward.

Logging IG concerns

Colleagues should always feel safe to raise concerns at any time to reduce preventable data breaches which could impact patient safety, as well as monetary and reputational repercussions for the CHFT.

You are protected by a number of organisational policies, namely, the Information Governance Group Policy and Strategy, Confidentiality Group Policy and the Freedom to Speak Up Group Policy - so please do not keep data security concerns to yourself.

Your first port of call should be your line manager so that they are aware of the issue. However if you do not feel this to be the best course of action in your particular situation, you can also contact the IG team directly through their mailbox at this.informationgovernance@this.nhs.uk  or log a call with the Service Desk or in Remedy on Demand.

More on our training

Additionally, the IG Team offers a number of training and engagement opportunities throughout the year.
