Our Specialist Midwife, Kate Heighway, was recently invited by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) to speak in the House of Commons to gather support for the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.

Under the plan, anyone who is 14 years or younger will not legally be able to buy cigarettes in England during their lives, as the smoking age is raised by one year every year.

Speaking about her experience Kate said: "On the day I spotted Rishi Sunak arriving for Prime Minister's Questions, and Sir Keir Starmer walked right past me in the lobby!

"I had good chat with Bob Blackman MP, who chairs the all-party parliamentary group on smoking. MP for York Central, Rachael Maskell, took a few of us on a private tour including a visit to the public gallery."

Kate is pictured with Annika, a mum who had given up smoking during pregnancy, and her healthy baby boy Merlin who stole the show. She has also helped create a video with ASH on the harm caused by smoking.
