If you missed the news last week - it's exciting times as HRI has been confirmed as just one of eight Centres of Excellence as an Elective Surgical Hub.
It follows the visit from Professor Tim Briggs and his team. Prof Briggs created the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) campaign, setting the highest standards for surgery across the UK.
To get the accreditation, colleagues from the Surgery and Anaesthetics division demonstrated all their work and successful outcomes in the following categories: Patient Pathway, Staff and Training, Clinical Governance and Outcomes, Utilisation and Productivity, Facilities and Ringfencing.
Chief Executive, Brendan Brown, said: “This is a huge achievement and I don’t underestimate the amount of hard work it has taken to get us to this stage by all colleagues involved. It’s also significant for our patients, who will I’m sure feel reassured by this accreditation. I’ve no doubt this is the start of a whole new set of opportunities for us and look forward to seeing more success stories as we progress with the new hub.”
The teams involved in getting us to this point include schedulers, medical secretaries, validators, operational managers, general managers, pre-op assessment and all on the clinical frontline. Pictured are the Elective Surgery Unit at HRI.
Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) is a national programme designed to improve the treatment and care of patients through in-depth review of services, benchmarking, and presenting a data-driven evidence base to support change.
