Colleagues can get an insight into what it’s like to live with autism when the Autism Reality Experience bus comes to the main car park of HRI on Tuesday, March 19 as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week.

People taking part in the experience are given simple tasks to do while distracted by flashing lights, noises, smells and textures, simulating the heightened sensory input experienced by those with autism.

Ash Bury, Admin Apprentice for the Recruitment Team (pictured), has autism. She said: "I would recommend visiting the autism bus if you are a member of staff. It's a more realistic perception of autism, and it's there so you can learn about autism from people like myself.

"The autism bus is a reality of what it's like for an autistic person like myself."

The Autism Reality Experience will be open to staff from 10:00am to 4:30pm. The experience takes around five minutes, and there is no need to book in advance. The bus is being provided by the same company that brings the Dementia Bus to CHFT.

There are more events taking place next week as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, including a Lunch and Learn session, bake sales, raffles and more. See the attachment below.
