After two-and-a-half years in her role as Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) Guardian, Andrea Gillespie is having a second attempt at retirement – and she’s handing over to a familiar face at CHFT – former Chief Nurse Information Officer and one-time Vaccination Lead, Carol Gregson.

Andrea said: “I have been in the role for two-and-a-half years, and during that time I have seen FTSU at CHFT grow significantly. The number of concerns raised by our colleagues has increased, and the improvements implemented as a result, whether large or small, have been gratifying.

“I have absolutely no doubts about leaving FTSU in the safe hands of Carol. She is kind and approachable, which is vital in the Guardian role.

“This is my second attempt at retiring and have lots of things planned which involve spending more time with my family and friends. I want to travel more and get stuck into some of that DIY at home that until now I have always used work as an excuse for not doing!

“I have met and worked with so many amazing CHFT colleagues in both this role and in previous roles and would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone best wishes for the future.”

Carol, pictured left, added: “I am delighted to have returned again after an 11-month break, and even more delighted that I was successful in securing the post of Freedom to Speak up Guardian.

“Andrea has done a great job and there have been significant changes since she took up the role – I am hoping that I can continue the good work and build on it.

“I am hoping to visit both sites in the coming weeks to meet as many people as I can, but if any staff group would like me to come to their area for a refresh on what Freedom to Speak Up is, then please get in touch either by email or phone - 07442 821120. Looking forward to working with you once again and meeting new colleagues.”
