It’s World Hijab Day (WHD) on Thursday and our Race Equality Network is planning some fun educational activities to raise awareness about the hijab and break down the stereotypes associated with Muslim women who choose to wear it.
Research Healthcare Professional, Zuleikha Mulla, suggested running the event for the first time at CHFT this year and she created a fabulous poster for the Prayer Room to use for advertising materials.
Zuleikha said: “I’ve known about World Hijab Day for years and follow lots of inspiring hijabi-wearing women on social media.
“It struck me how much information was out there, and that we didn’t seem to celebrate here at CHFT.
“For me it’s about raising awareness about why we wear the hijab, but also I want people to embrace it and change the perceptions of society. Plus, I hope it’ll give others the confidence to wear their hijab with pride."
Pop along to the main entrance on HRI on Thursday, 1st February between 09:30 and 13:00. You can guess the hijabi-wearing celebrity, try on a hijab or play a hijab-themed wordsearch.
If you share photos on social media next week then there is a hashtag too - it's #veiledinstrength
