Big news from our Fire Safety Team. Trainee Fire Officer, Kumer Zaman, pictured, wants to alert colleagues to some important fire safety messages. Staying up-to-date and knowing our roles in fire safety procedures is everyone's responsibility, so please read on.
Fire Policy updated
The Fire Policy has had an overhaul - with many areas being updated, including:
- Amendments to roles and responsibilities
- Evacuation Drills and Personnel Emergency Evacuation Plans
- Oxygen enrichment
- Electrical equipment and safety
- Electric bikes and scooters
- Reporting fires and false alarms
All colleagues should make themselves aware of the policy to understand their role and responsibilities. Find it in the Policies and Documents Library by searching 'fire', or you can read it here.
New Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) assessment and procedure
A new PEEP assessment and procedure has been finalised as part of the new Fire Policy.
We have a legal duty to make sure all our colleagues working in our buildings can reach a place of safety in the event of a fire. Legislation describes this as “a place, away from the premises, in which people are at no immediate danger from the effects of a fire”. A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) is a bespoke plan for any individual who may need assistance, for instance, a person with impaired mobility, to evacuate a building or reach a place of safety in the event of an emergency.
The documents are on the Fire Department intranet page.
