The Christmas period is almost here, and our colleagues in CHS are asking colleagues who may be having some time off to think about switching off their equipment as they head off for their breaks.

Environment and Energy Officer, Grace Barrett, said: "It's easy to forget some of the hidden areas and equipment as you leave for your break, so here are are few reminders."

  • Switch off all lights at the end of the day. Key areas that could be missed include: department kitchens, break rooms, meeting rooms, storerooms and toilets.
  • Switching off PCs (not just leaving them on standby) and unplugging laptops and chargers when not in use.
  • Switching off kitchen appliances at the plug when not in use.
  • Ensuring plug in appliances like portable heaters and other equipment are switched off.

If you are unsure about switching off specific equipment, you should check with your manager first and be mindful of the specific service requirements for your department.
