From today, Monday, 11th December, we are moving to a new system in EPR to be able to prescribe analgesia for acute pain in adults. The new plan includes the necessary discharge and deprescribing advice.

This should reduce the number of patients who would unnecessarily continue their opioids beyond expected duration for acute pain. It will also prompt a GP review for further prescriptions, at which point the GP would decide to either continue opioids or wean and stop.

This will make us more compliant with the Best Practice guidelines for Surgery and Opioids, as outlined by the Faculty of Pain Management.
