Each year we receive an allocation of printed British National Formularies and the British National Formularies for Children.

As they are readily available online and via an App we have significantly reduced the number of copies that we order, and paper copies are no longer provided for the majority of wards and departments.

We have a very limited number of spare copies of BNF 86 and BNFC 2023-2024 available. If you are a prescriber and would like a copy, please email medicines.information@cht.nhs.uk to request one.

Accessing the online versions

The BNF is available online at https://bnf.nice.org.uk/

There is also an icon on the toolbar in EPR for both BNF and BNFC.

The BNF app can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store for iOS devices and the Google Play Store for Android devices. Internet access is not required.  Once you have downloaded the app all features and functionality are accessible both online and offline.

Paper copies will be removed next year

In line with the NHS’s plans to digitise information, NICE have made the decision that this year’s allocation of paper BNFs will be the last therefore in future there will not be any printed copies.

Please ensure that there are no previous versions of BNFs or BNFCs in clinical areas, and only the most recent copy should be used. Please recycle these in the correct waste stream.
