Following feedback in the last NHS Staff Survey, our Management and Prevention of Violence and Aggression Behaviour Policy for Adults has undergone an extensive revision – and now has a wealth of useful resources.
Here are General Manager, Sarah Rothery (left), and Lead Nurse for Quality, Alex Keaskin, with Ward 5’s Sister, Tyne Heald. The pair started their ward walk rounds last week to show all the new brilliant resources and tools that come with the Policy.
Sarah said: “The revised Policy has had multi-disciplinary input from Trust security teams, the Trust legal service and clinicians.
“It is a Trust priority to ensure we provide a safe place for our colleagues to work. The new policy and guidance contains a number of different resources including managing challenging behaviour support cards, and an escalation framework giving tips and advice on how to spot the signs of escalating adverse behaviour.
“The resources focus on both environmental factors effecting behaviour and clinically-led challenging behaviour.”
Sarah, Alex and Associate Director of Nursing, Andrea Dauris, will be visiting wards at HRI and CRH over the coming days to introduce the policy and hand out a handy pack of resources.
They’ll also be engaging with community colleagues.
We value your feedback on the policy and hope that it provides a framework in which you can be supported with when dealing with challenging behaviours. An interactive booklet will be produced based on colleague feedback, so watch this space.
How to find the policy
It's on the Policies and Documents Library on the intranet. Search keywords like violence or aggression to narrow down your results.
