This coming Friday, 10th November, it’s Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) Day. We’re one of only a handful of trusts to have a dedicated NET nurse, Anthony Thomas.

Anthony said: “It's the fastest-growing malignancy type (in terms of patient numbers) in the UK, and there is a difficult diagnostic pathway. One in six people will see their GP at least four times before being referred to secondary care for diagnosis, so raising awareness is crucial.”

Anthony has arranged for a stand in the main entrance at HRI to raise awareness and is working on some content for our website for patients to access.

Neuroendocrine Cancer UK which is the charity that supports these, and Macmillan Cancer Information have sponsored Anthony’s role.

Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are rare tumours that develop in cells of the neuroendocrine system. They are also called neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). There are a number of different types. The type people have depends on the particular cells that the tumour starts in.
