On Monday, 20th November the National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS) will be replaced by a new Learn from Patient Safety Events (LFPSE) system.
There will be significant changes for colleagues when entering information into the Trust Risk Management Information System, known as Datix.
What happens now?
Currently, when Datix entries are made, our Risk Management Team review them. They make sure they are anonymised and that the entries read well. Once the team have reviewed them, they are uploaded to the national LFPSE database.
What will happen after 20th November?
The new system requires answers to additional questions – and these will be added to Datix for the switchover date.
Our Risk Management Team will no longer be able to review, or sense check colleague entries, as they will automatically be uploaded to LFPSE.
This means colleagues will need to pay particular attention to any information they enter, following Information Governance protocols and ensuring entries are clear and understandable.
Will there be training, and can I practice on the new system before it goes live?
There is a test version of the new Datix system, which you can access using your current login using this link: Datix: ***TEST SYSTEM *** Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust - Incident / Near Miss Reporting Form (cht.nhs.uk). (When using the link for the first time, the fields may scroll round, if so please open the link again).
A training package will be available in early November, and our Risk Management Team have been attending divisional Patient Safety Quality Boards to make them aware.
Can I find out more?
If you would like more information ahead of the training package and additional communications, please contact our Head of Quality and Patient Safety, Sharon Cundy. Email Sharon.cundy@cht.nhs.uk or call 07385 460078.
There is more information in the attachment below for those who would like more information about the changes.
