Our ED Consultant, Professor Andy Lockey, took his 93-year-old mum, Chris, to Windsor last week to receive his MBE for his work leading the Resuscitation Council UK’s ‘Restart a Heart’ initiative since it began in 2016.

The prestigious ceremony, hosted by Anne, The Princess Royal, took place at Windsor Castle.

Andy said: “It was an absolutely fabulous day – and more importantly a really happy one.

“I was expecting it to be a little like a graduation ceremony, with rows and rows of people going up to get their honours. How wrong I was.

“My mum Chris, brother Tony and his wife Gail were able to be with me all day. And when the time came, we were invited in as a single group so that Anne, the Princess Royal, could present me with my MBE. They were able to be close behind me to see the presentation.

“It was such a personal touch. I’m pretty sure we talked about defibrillators, but I was a little overwhelmed so it’s a bit of a blur.”
