The main entrance at HRI and the lift lobby at CRH have turned pink for Organ Donation Week, which begins today.
Service Performance Manager, Val Rigg, said: “Sadly we can’t light up the outside of Calderdale Royal, but I’m really pleased with this alternative in the lift lobby as you won’t just see it at night.”
Currently 36 people in Halifax and Huddersfield are on the waiting list for a transplant. Paul Knight is our clinical lead and Jayne Greenhalgh is our specialist nurse who work closely with our teams in ICU to support families.
Paul said: “I’ve worked in intensive care for more than 30 years and in that time have witnessed countless personal tragedies where life is snatched away without warning and organ donation becomes a possibility. If you believe as I do that organ donation can offer a chance for so much good to come from so much tragedy then talk with your loved ones so that they know about your wishes to support organ donation and that you know theirs.
“Leave them certain.”
Jayne adds: “This conversation can come at a really difficult time. Families are facing the prospect of bereavement and can be very tired and upset, so for them to know what their loved one would want regarding donating organs and tissues, helps them to support this decision, clear in the knowledge they are following the wishes of their loved one."
Helen Hirst is our Chair of CHFT and also proudly the Chair of the Trust’s Organ Donation Committee.
She said: “None of us would want to be in the shoes of loved ones facing this situation, but doing so with the clear knowledge that your loved one wanted to donate makes the decision a little bit easier.”
Further information and advice is available on the Organ Donation website and you can also register your decision online. Alternatively call the 24-hour organ donation line on 0300 123 23 23.
