Earlier this year, 90-year-old Joyce Whittaker told carers at her Lindley Care home that it was her "dream" to visit the new A&E at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

In late August that dream became a reality, as Chief Nurse, Lindsay Rudge, and ED Consultant, Mark Davies, welcomed Joyce on a VIP tour of the new facility. The visit was extra-special for Joyce, as she started her nursing career at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary in the 1970s.

BBC Look North came along to film the visit, and the piece aired last night on the evening news.

Lindsay Rudge said: "It was lovely to be able to show Joyce around and show her some of the new things in the department. To be able to share the experience with her was great, knowing that she'd worked here all this time. It was a thrill for me."

Mark Davies added: "This is someone who knows what they're taking about. They know what nursing is like. And I'm sure that Joyce will recognise that it's significantly different to what we have now - and from when she had her nursing career."
