Colleagues on the Frailty Same Day Emergency Care unit sprang into action when they spotted a patient had become poorly extremely quickly – an unusual situation in the department.

Physiotherapist Bethan Davies nominated them. Here’s a snippet of what she wrote:

“They were quick to identify that the patient was deteriorating rapidly and acted efficiently to ensure he got the appropriate care and interventions. They remained calm and professional throughout, working as a team to respond to his complex needs and sourced the appropriate support and resources from other wards. They ensured his dignity was maintained throughout and that he was kept comfortable, and his family were updated quickly to be by his side.

“Their actions meant that the gentleman was stabilised and transferred to the Acute Floor safely.

“They should be applauded for their response, as their area normally does not deal with acutely unwell patients.”

Presenting the Award, Chief Executive, Brendan Brown, said: “Bethan was really keen to call out just how far you went to do the right thing, you went above and beyond, and how you really epitomised our Trust values. The compassion you showed that gentlemen is second to none.”
