Our Dietetics Team are reminding colleagues about the importance of nutrition and hydration in patients.

All patients who are admitted need to have a Nutritional Assessment (MUST) completed. If the MUST score is 1 or above, the patient's oral intake needs to be accurately recorded on a food record chart. A red tray/burgundy lid is needed to highlight this to all colleagues.

HRI

Please inform the collator of how many red trays are required for food service. They will be brought to the ward at food service. When collecting a patient’s meal from the server, please ensure it is placed on a red tray if their oral intake is being recorded.

CRH

When ordering meals, please add a red dot sticker to the menu sheet.  This will highlight to the catering and nursing team which patients will require a burgundy lid when serving the food

At CRH it is the responsibility of the domestic team to ensure the red trays are cleaned.

Please do not transfer the patient’s meal items from one tray to the other. Catering staff will not clear red trays without authorisation from ward staff to ensure any food diaries can be completed and assistance given.
