A new 12-week pilot programme to support men with prostate cancer on long-term hormone therapy has started - with rave reviews.

The programme aims to support patients and their families with a focus on reducing the impact of the side effects of hormone treatment through exercise and information. It is tailored to educate and help patients support themselves.

There were 15 men at the first session earlier this month.

One participant, John said, “I wasn’t keen to attend, but following a phone call from the nurse, Anne-Marie, I decided to come along, and I am so pleased I did. There is so much I don’t know about my cancer and how to help myself and through the next 12 weeks I am going to learn so much”.

Another, Chris, had changed his mind about the session after initially saying he had no interest in physical activity or exercise. By the end of the fist session, he said: “It’s great having someone show me how to exercise properly. Tomorrow I am going to start going out for a walk and I’m really interested in doing some of these exercises at home”.
