Sister Kath Stubbington from the Discharge Lounge at HRI has completed her End-of-Life Champions course. As part of it she spent a day at Overgate Hospice working on the inpatient unit and day hospice.

She said: “All the staff were so welcoming and helpful. It was lovely to watch them have time to give personalised care.

"I was really moved to see a doctors take their own folding chair to the patient’s bed side to talk to them - it really showed empathetic and sincere communication.

Staff at the Hospice said it was beneficial having our colleagues visit to share their experiences of end-of-life care. Overgate Hospice Nursing Associate, Wayne Oldfield said, “I feel that it’s nice to have them join us as part of the Champions Course. They get to experience how we work and what we provide.”

Kath's now determined to champion discharging end-of-life care patients and to give people more information on the services offered by the day hospice at Overgate.
