Gerry Robertson and her family are regular fundraisers for CHFT - and that's down to the fantastic care her son Thomas received from the Children’s Diabetes Team.

And this week Gerry will be donating another £1,000 to mark the date of her son Thomas’ death. He sadly died due to complications with Type 1 Diabetes. This will bring her total donations so far to £5,500.

The care the family received from the Children’s Diabetes Team encouraged Gerry to give back and to keep Thomas’ memory alive. Gerry said: “Thomas was a cheeky loveable lad who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 13. We miss him so much, every minute of the day. The one thing Tom asked me and his brother Joe to do, was to make a difference and hopefully we have done that.”

Gerry’s donations have been used to fund activity days for patients and colleagues as well as funding Hypo Kits which are used to treat very low blood sugar. Our Diabetes Team also ran two training days to educate staff from thirty local schools.
