ISS colleague and Patient Liaison Officer, Alison Place, has received a certificate of appreciation from Director of Workforce and OD, Suzanne Dunkley, for going above and beyond to assist a patient and his family in the final days of his life.

Corporate Matron, Alexandra Keaskin, was blown away by Alison's care. She said: "Alison attended the patient's bedside to speak with his wife about his needs. She then personally blended and sieved the soup (and then sieved again to be sure there were no bits) to ensure the consistency was correct for the patient.

"She also spoke to dietetics, to make sure what she was doing was right for him, and if anything else could be done to meet his needs. Alison again checked in with the patient’s wife personally to make sure everything was suitable.

"She then offered to come in over the weekend to make sure he had his soup blended. This is a prime example of One Culture of Care and she deserves this recognition for going above and beyond. It makes me really proud to work with people like Alison and I’ve felt really moved by the empathy she has shown to meet this gentleman's needs in the last days of his life."

Upon receiving the certificate, Alison humbly said: “I couldn’t have left it. It’s not in my nature to not help.  I love my job - I’ve worked here for 38 years.”
