Patient Pathway Manager, Kath Crewe, has retired after initially following her mum into nursing. Her career in the NHS spanned 41 years.
She started in the NHS at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, becoming a registered nurse after three years.
After working in general surgery for a year, she began a long stint in the Emergency Department working there from around 1988 until 2007 – with many happy memories and enough stories to fill a book.
Lead Cancer Manager, Maureen Overton, said: “Fortunately for CHFT in 2007 she moved into cancer services and her legacy is there for all to see. She has worked tirelessly for patients undergoing a cancer pathway ensuring that there are no unnecessary delays and helping to implement new innovative ways of working.
“Kath you have been the most wonderful person to work with, supportive, caring and all with a smile – there is a lot more to Kath than you see. I wish Kath a long and happy retirement which she will spend with her Husband James. Kath we will all miss you incredibly - enjoy.”
Kath’s deputy, Zoe Smithurst, added: “Due to Kath’s support and diligence CHFT has been able to maintain high standards throughout the COVID pandemic. We were one of only three nationally to do this and we felt that we could hear our patients and relatives shouting “thank you.”
“I have worked with Kath for over 10 years, and I have to say it’s been a pleasure! Working together in cancer performance and supporting her to manage the PPC Team has been challenging but such a great ride! She will be missed by many for all the work and effort she’s put into achieving cancer targets for our Trust. With the knowledge and skills she leaves behind we will do all we can to continue this good work!
