Physician Associate, Rahmani Morsalle, will be travelling to the Lebanon-Syria border in September with Human Appeal, to give hygiene packs and hot meals to those who have escaped the war but are now living in awful conditions. Whilst there, she will also organise an 'orphan fun day' to help children who have already lost so much.
Morsalle has been completing various challenges to help fundraise for this trip. She hiked Whernside, the highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, (in the snow!) in March. She has also completed an exercise bike challenge to cycle 40km each week - all whilst fasting during Ramadan.
Explaining why she wants to do the trip, Morsalle said: “I came to the UK from Afghanistan as a refugee when I was five. Any cause helping people escaping war is close to my heart. After the Turkey earthquake in February, I had a strong urge to do something to help people, as I felt helpless and guilty to be living such a privileged life.
“It's also a strong part of my faith, so I don't see it as me helping others. If anything, it really helps fulfil me in so many ways - including feeling closer to God.”
Morsalle has managed to raise £5000 through her efforts so far, with another £1000 to go to reach her target.
