Advanced Specialist Nurse in Lung Cancer, Maria Hill, has obtained a Master of Science (MSc) with merit, in Specialist Practice Cancer from Manchester University.
An especially impressive accomplishment, considering Maria undertook her master’s degree whilst working full time, during Covid, with a young child. She said: "That was the hardest part - balancing work life, family and study. The changes due to Covid were also a huge challenge. All learning became virtual, which was very different from being in the classroom."
Maria believes it was all worth the effort, as now she can deliver specialist cancer care to patients. She couldn’t have done it without the support from her Lung Cancer Team and wants to thank them for their encouragement and support.
Lead Cancer Nurse, Caroline Summers, said: “Maria has dedicated the last few years to developing her academic knowledge and skills further within the field of cancer and it is a fantastic achievement.”
Maria's advice for anyone thinking about higher education is: "Reach out to the very helpful library team. They really are fantastic support and offer plenty of encouragement. I couldn't have done my dissertation without their guidance and assistance."
