Specialist Nurse, Anthony Thomas, has been hard at work, (with help from another canine friend), raising money for the ongoing Children's Pre-Bereavement Project.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Palliative Care Team and Paediatric services, and aims to provide parents and guardians with resources to support pre-bereaved children, to help prepare them for the death of their parent or guardian. The money raised by Anthony will help pay for topic specific children’s books and customisable memory boxes.

Anthony, dressed as Scooby-Doo, ran a teddy bear sale outside of HRI last week to help raise the funds for these wonderful resources. Cuddly toys were kindly donated by some of our colleagues along with knitted animals and bears, lovingly created by one of our patients. The sale managed to raise £95.

The same patient also donated a special teddy, which comes with his own knitted clothing, and a Name the Bear competition has launched to continue the fundraising efforts. To take part, you can email anthony.thomas@cht.nhs.uk or call him on 07799657943. Each entry costs £1. The competition will close in two weeks on Monday, 31st July and the winner will receive the newly-named teddy bear. A runner-up will also receive a different knitted bear.
