The green light has been given and all our noisy bins are being replaced with soft-closing bins in patient sleeping areas.

They're being installed following a patient experience survey undertaken by CHFT and The University of Huddersfield.

Waste Management Officer, Nigel Murphy (pictured), said: "One of the most common complaints by patients were the noisy bin lids clanking down when they were opened and closed. A business case was approved to change all old bins to brand new, soft-close ones.

"We know that as well as giving the patient a better night's sleep, which is vital for their recovery, it will also help colleagues with the correct segregation of waste."

The new bins come with magnetic, double-sided labels which can be swapped around depending on the requirements of the room. For example, if an infected patient is occupying a side room, the label would be swapped to the offensive/infectious side rather than the domestic/recycling side.

The bins have already been replaced at HRI and Nigel will be at CRH this week.
