A reminder that our End-of-Life Care Team is launching a Shared Decision-Making Council. If you have an interest and passion for providing excellence in end-of-life care, feel free to join the team on Wednesday, 12th July between 2:30pm and 4:30pm in the boardroom at HRI.

Shared decision-making is a concept which applies a collaborative approach towards leadership and decision-making. It is designed to empower the healthcare workforce, encouraging those delivering care to influence how it is delivered.

The principles of a shared decision-making council ensures that an agreement is reached in an inclusive, non-hierarchical and collaborative way. It puts the responsibility, authority and accountability for practice-related decisions into the hands of the individuals who will operationalise the decision. The new Shared Decision-Making Council will discuss new ways of working clinically and operationally and will drive quality and service improvements, supporting innovation and delivering better outcomes for patients and staff.

Key outcomes include:

• Strong professional voice

• Staff at all levels empowered to make changes

• Diverse and new ideas

• Present and share good practice

• Accountability, ownership and partnership

• Decisions around care

• Act on things that will make a difference and then see the result

• Develop leadership skills

• Job satisfaction

• Shared leadership – debate what’s right

• Celebrate and have pride in achievements

• Learn together and disseminate learning – develop SMART actions
