The NHS turns 75 on Wednesday 5th July and here are colleagues on Ward 19 at HRI with their bunting up and ready to celebrate. Across CHFT there will be a host of birthday activities, so here's a breakdown of everything that's happening on the day - all in once place.
Calderdale Royal Hospital
ISS are offering a free drink and cake between 10:00 and 11:30 in Ingleton Falls Restaurant for all colleagues (until the cake runs out). Union House (Starbucks) coffee shop also has a special offer on for the first 500 customers - spend £1.00 on anything and get a free coffee or tea.
Huddersfield Royal Infirmary
Southside Dining, run by CHS Ltd will be offering a free drink, along with a piece of cake, between 9:30 and 11:30 to all colleagues who call into the restaurant during this time.
Community
Between 12pm and 1pm there will be a 75th birthday tea party at Westgate House, Halifax, along with a demonstration of new technology by Virtual Ward/UCR and a photo display over the years by Community Nursing.
Charity bake sale
From 10am to 2pm there will be a charity bake sale in aid of our charity at both HRI (main entrance) and CRH (outside Ingleton Falls).
Look North and ITV Calendar
BBC Look North filmed at both HRI and CRH last week for a special NHS75 feature on unsung heroes. Those featured included married volunteers, John and Alison Cottam, Outpatients Receptionist, Keith Hatzer and ward volunteer, Phil Hellawell.
ITV Calendar also paid us a visit the previous week, filming the radiology team at HRI for a future-focused piece on artificial intelligence in diagnostics.
Both pieces are scheduled for broadcast on Wednesday evening.
Westminster Service
A special service to give thanks is taking place at Westminster Abbey, and five of our colleagues, who have in the past won a CHuFT monthly Star Award or were a winner at the annual CHuFT Awards, have been nominated to attend. The lucky five heading to London on Wednesday are:
- Driver, Barry Ackroyd
- Healthcare Support Worker Lead, Rebecca Beaumont
- Domestic Assistant, Keith Bryan
- Maternity Support Worker, Kulwant Kaur
- Matron, Rachel Garside
We're sure they'll have a lovely day, and we can't wait to see the photos!
Commemorative tree planting at new HRI A&E site
Ten children from nearby Reinwood Junior and Infant Schools will be coming to the site of the new A&E at HRI to help plant a tree on Wednesday morning. Their contribution will be marked with a commemorative plaque and we'll share the photos in next week's bulletin.
However you plan to celebrate - have a great day and do share your photos with communications@cht.nhs.uk
