Measles is on the rise in the UK, with cases seen within the Yorkshire and Humber region. Our immunocompromised people, pregnant women and unvaccinated infants are at increased risk of severe disease.
Actions to take:
- Isolate immediately those presenting with a fever and rash, following respiratory isolation precautions (airborne).
- Send a buccal sample using a green top viral swab (not in charcoal) for Measles PCR. If viral swabs aren't available, send a dry swab in a plain universal sample pot.
- Exclude exposed staff from the 5th day to 21 days after the exposure, unless evidence of protection (measles IgG or two doses of a measles containing vaccine.) Significant exposure is: direct contact for 15 minutes or more with a patient with confirmed measles.
- Notify cases to UKHSA via the local Health Protection Team (HPT) on 0113 386 0300
