Ward 5 are putting on a 'trolley' good show when it comes to patient nutrition and hydration.
Inspired by “driving force”, Nutritional Assistant, Trevor Goldring (pictured centre), they’ve introduced a regime or offering snacks and drinks in-between meal times to ensure patients have all the top ups and intake they need to promote a swift recovery.
Trevor, who started in September last year, brings a wealth of experience from different roles within the health service. He says: “I am passionate about patient care and promoting independence. Nutrition and hydration plays a big part in giving our elderly patients the energy to give this a go.”
He believes close liaising with the patient - and their family - ensure they get the food the both like and need for their recovery is key.
Ward 5’s Manager and newly promoted Development Matron, Paula Grice, hailed Trevor’s approach. “Since starting, Trevor has been a driving force in making sure we're offering a wealth of snacks and drinks which can help to improve our patient's mobility as they have the energy to get better and get back on their feet sooner.
"Trevor recognised from day one the importance of making sure someone's nutrition and hydration needs are met and how best to action based on the needs of our patients. He’s acutely aware that many of our patients like to snack as they can often feel overwhelmed by large plates of food.
"This really highlights Trevor and the amazing work he's done - quite frankly everyone should have a Trevor!"
And Trevor’s favourite food when he’s poorly? Toast and coffee.
