As part of her preparation for the 2027 Double TCS London Marathon, recently our Director of Operations for Medicine, Helen Rees, ran the Yorkshire 10 Mile, through the streets of York.

Helen, who won her marathon place via our NHS Charity’s ballot, said: “I had a great race, in great conditions and enjoyed the experience. It was a good boost before the winter months of training for the marathon next April.

“I ran it in 1hr 38 mins, which was better than I expected so I was really pleased. I'm used to training on the Calderdale hills, so it was nice to run on the flat in York!

“I've been steadily improving since finding out I've got a place, building up my long run to 10 miles and over the winter I'll be increasing my mileage gradually increasing my long runs.

“As well as training with my running friend Ros, who ran the York race with me, I'm also part of the Stainland Lions running club so I'm running a couple of times a week with them too.

“Huge thanks to everyone who has donated through my fundraising page so far. Every penny makes a difference to our fantastic charity.”
