We now have a free self-referral service to make it easier for people to access a chest X-ray without having to see their GP first.
People can self-refer if they are:
- Are aged 40 or over
- Are registered with a GP in Calderdale or Kirklees
- Have not had a chest X-ray in the last three months
- Have had one or more of the following symptoms for more than three weeks: persistent cough, chest pain, difficulty breathing, unexplained weight or appetite loss, fatigue or tiredness
No appointment is needed. People can walk in at either of our Community Diagnostic Centres in Halifax and Huddersfield and ask for the self-referral chest X-ray service. Patients will be required to complete a short eligibility form beforehand.
Once the scan is complete, the X-ray will be reviewed and sent to the patient's GP, usually within two to three weeks. If further tests are needed, you will be contacted by the hospital or your GP. If your symptoms are persistent or getting worse, people are asked to contact their GP practice or NHS 111.
