Jehovah’s Witnesses have announced that acceptance of the four primary blood components (red cells, white cells, plasma and platelets) is now a matter of individual conscience.

Members may also choose whether to donate blood for the manufacture of blood components or products. The position against transfusion of whole blood remains unchanged.

The Hospital Liaison Committee members at CHFT are trained to facilitate communication between medical staff and Jehovah’s Witness patients. They are available at any time to assist at the request of the treating team or the patient.

This information and more is in the latest edition of Transfusion, which you can read on the Blood Transfusion intranet page.
