To mark the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week, last Saturday, 10th October, saw 70 walkers come together for our first-ever Lantern Trail, raising more than £3,600 in support of our Maternity Bereavement Appeal.
As the sun set, families, friends, colleagues, and members of our local community walked the 10km route from HRI to CRH, carrying lanterns in memory of babies gone too soon and showing support for all those affected by pregnancy and baby loss. This short video shares the spirit of the evening.
The event was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, and our Chief Executive, Rob Aitchison shared the importance of supporting bereaved families and the impact the new Maternity Bereavement Suite will have on future generations.
Fittingly, a rainbow appeared just before participants set off, providing a poignant backdrop to an evening of remembrance, reflection and hope.
Participants were also treated to performances from Chloe Amelia and the Lindley Men's Choir, creating a fitting and heartfelt start to the evening. Along the route, Lindley Parish Church kindly opened its doors, offering walkers a space to light a candle and pause for reflection.
If you weren't able to join us on the walk, there's still time to support the appeal. Every donation, no matter the size, will help us create a more comfortable, private and compassionate environment for families experiencing baby loss. You can donate via the appeal's Just Giving page.
To everyone who walked, volunteered, performed, donated, sponsored or supported the event in any way, thank you. Your support is helping us create a more compassionate and comfortable environment for families when they need it the most.
