Our Charity Lantern Trail, takes place on Saturday, 10th October to mark the beginning of Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Building on the success of the Big Hospital Walk, the Lantern Trail offers a meaningful opportunity for colleagues, families, friends and members of the local community to come together in remembrance, raise awareness and show support for those affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

Participants will walk a dedicated 10km route from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary to Calderdale Royal Hospital, carrying lanterns as they travel. As dusk falls, the trail of light will create a powerful and moving tribute to babies gone too soon, while highlighting the lasting impact of pregnancy and baby loss on families across our communities.

A shuttle bus will be in place at CRH to take people back to HRI after the walk, refreshments will also be available at the end.

The event is also raising funds for our Maternity Bereavement Appeal, which aims to raise £300,000 to create a dedicated Maternity Bereavement Suite at Calderdale Royal Hospital. The suite will provide families experiencing the loss of a baby with a private, compassionate environment and access to specialist support during one of the most difficult times imaginable.

So far we have over 40 humans signed up and three dogs! Participants are able to borrow or purchase a lantern at the event, with the option to write a personalised message on the lantern (see photo below.) People are also encouraged to wear bright, reflective or light-up items to make themselves safe and visible during the walk. So whether you've been personally affected by baby loss, would like to support someone, or simply want to help make a difference for local families, everyone is welcome to join.
